About Doo Bee Doo Bee Doo (DBDBD)
Saadat (Sadato) and Yashiro worked out the DBDBD’s concept and mission. It was published by POP BIZ Ltd in Tokyo in summer of 2004. Saadat was the chief editor assisted by his wife Shigeko Yashiro who was in charge of accounting, proof reading and production-printing.
Primarily, indie music from Europe was featured in the magazine, such as jazz, world music, indie rock, electronica, club, avant-garde music, contemporary and new classic, soundtrack; and all kinds of Classical Japanese music (Kato Bushi and Shin Nai) and Classical theatre (Kabuki and Noh).
The magazine was POP BIZ’s bullhorn which promoted primarily European import CDs, vinyl, books, videos and merch. artist interviews, label features, CD and concert reviews, concert announcements, music business related topics and music history (Japan, Iran, West Afria, Gypsy/Romania. The magazine was widely available for free in cafes, book stores, cinemas, fashion and record retailers, and music venues in Tokyo, Japan.
Most of the contributors were music journalists or record store managers and buyers (TOWER, HMV, WAVE, Disk Union, a.o.)
